FCP Live-In Helps Jeff Patterson Go Home Again And Thrive After Fourteen Months In A Hospital And Nursing Home, Thanks To FCP Live-In Caregiver Tairon!

Jeff Patterson was playing golf on Oct. 1, 2021, a day he said would “live in infamy.” That was the day Jeff contracted West Nile virus, which led to him developing encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). Jeff was hospitalized for nine months and then spent five months in a nursing home. After all this time, Jeff said he was ready to go home. Jeff’s father, Richard, wanted his son home because Thanksgiving was less than a month away. But Jeff was not sure that would happen.

However, the nursing home’s social worker referred them to FCP Live-In, an in-home care company that provides live-in care services. After contacting FCP Live-In, the agency’s care coordinator met with the Pattersons to determine Jeff’s service needs. Richard later met one-on-one with FCP Live-In Field Supervisor Donna McGinnelly and FCP live-in caregiver Tairon. “He wanted to make sure he knew the person who was going to be there with his son and the one watching over his case,” Donna recalled.

Tairon met Jeff at the rehabilitation facility, where he also worked with Jeff’s physical therapist. “Right from the start, Tairon was able to help Jeff,” Donna recalled. “He lifted him and moved him. They were a good match.”

Thanks to FCP Live-In, Jeff could go home for Thanksgiving, and Tairon has been with him ever since.

“Tairon has been a big help,” Jeff said. “I can’t do much of anything by myself, so he is my personal chef, my personal trainer, and my bodyguard. He takes me to physical therapy and occupational therapy pretty much every week, and for that, I’m thankful.”

Before joining FCP Live-In in November of 2021, Tairon worked other jobs, including one at a hospital emergency room and one at a nursing home. But, Tairon said being an FCP Live-In caregiver is, by far, the best job he has had.

“What I like most about what I do is taking care of my clients,” Tairon said. “I like being able to help them with their daily activities, making them feel comfortable in their own home, and helping them to enjoy their family members when they come by and visit.”

FCP Live-In Provides Affordable Solutions With Live-In Care

For nearly three decades, FCP Live-In has been caring for clients in the comfort of their homes. All it takes is a personal injury, a chronic illness, or an unexpected event to upend a person’s life. And without family members or a personal caregiver to provide around-the-clock assistance, moving to an assisted living facility or nursing home may be an individual’s only option.

FCP Live-In offers a unique and affordable solution of providing one-on-one caregiving by a professional who lives in a client’s home. This type of service is ideal for older adults who want to age in place in their homes but need help with their daily living activities to remain independent.

“FCP Live-In is about caring for people,” said FCP Live-In’s CEO, David Anthony, who founded the company in 1997. “Right now, you either have a home health aide who comes to the home for a few hours, or a loved one needs to go into an assisted living facility. But what if you take the best of both? An insured and bonded live-in caregiver who provides one-on-one care, stays in the home and is there 24/7. That’s where FCP Live-In comes in.”

The agency not only focuses on its clients, but keeps family members in mind as well. Whether or not family members live nearby, an FCP Live-In caregiver gives them peace of mind, knowing that their loved ones are in the capable hands of a trained and compassionate caregiver.

FCP Live-In caregivers are Certified Nursing Assistants, Home Health Aides, or Personal Care Assistants with experience who receive ongoing training from the agency.

FCP Live-in has a 24/7 professional support system, which begins with live-in caregivers and expands to a multi-faceted corporate structure. In other words, live-in caregivers and their clients are provided with assistance from the agency with whatever they need.

“I come back out 48 to 72 hours later to follow up with clients, their families, and the caregivers to make sure it’s a good match and that things are going well,” Donna said.

“Donna is very helpful,” Tairon added. “Anything I need, she’s here for me.”

When visiting homes, field supervisors also take notice of their clients’ progress, like Donna did with Jeff.

“In this case, each time I’ve been out to do visits, Jeff has hit so many milestones,” Donna said.

Tairon not only takes care of Jeff, Donna said, but he makes sure Jeff is dressed, helps him to walk and use his exercise bike, and helps with his physical therapy. “He even cuts Jeff’s hair,” she added,

Donna cannot say enough about Tairon.

“Tairon doesn’t give himself enough credit,” Donna continued. “He is a big support system because sometimes Jeff isn’t in the best of moods, and Tairon brings him back up with his thoughtfulness and motivation. We have come a long, long way, and that is because of Tairon.”

FCP Live-In Has A Rigorous Vetting Process For Caregivers

FCP Live-In has enjoyed decades of success because of its rigorous hiring process, ensuring only the best candidates are considered for live-in caregiver positions. First, the company conducts in-depth state and national background checks on all caregiver applicants. Candidates then undergo a round of interviews, and those who demonstrate exceptional performance are called back for a third interview. The chosen applicants must complete a skills assessment and attend a two-day orientation to further assess their capabilities and attitudes.

With well-qualified and highly trained caregivers on board, the agency’s live-in caregivers support clients with a variety of health conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and stroke. On occasion, live-in caregivers offer compassionate end-of-life care and are with their clients when they take their last breath.

Each day, live-in caregivers help clients bathe, dress, and groom and with other activities, such as toileting and transferring from the bed to the bathroom or a wheelchair. Caregivers also manage light housekeeping tasks, such as preparing nutritious meals, doing laundry, vacuuming, and grocery shopping. While personal care and household chores are important, clients appreciate the most the companionship that live-in caregivers provide.

Because they are living with their clients, caregivers sleep at night in a bedroom provided and are available if their clients need them. When caregivers need to take time off, FCP Live-In provides a replacement.

Since caring for Jeff, Tairon said he has only taken off about two or three times. It’s obvious that Tairon enjoys what he’s doing because he says, “I love the fact that I feel like I’m at home.” Tairon believes that FCP Live-In wants its clients to feel the same way.

“I like that they (clients) don’t have to be in a nursing home, but at home with their family members and enjoying one another,” Tairon said.
