FCP Live-In Is A Trusted Source For Live-In Home Care In Maine That Helps Many Stay In Their Homes With Affordable Live-In Care
Leah Jane Cusack and Ralph Cusack had been married for over 60 years and were active in their community. Unfortunately, Ralph suffered several small strokes and developed mild dementia. Leah Jane had difficulty getting around and needed help caring for herself and her husband.
Despite their health conditions, Ralph and Leah Jane were determined to stay together and remain in their home in Scarborough, Maine, where they had lived for over 50 years. However, the couple’s decision posed a dilemma for their adult children: How could they run the family business, take care of their own families, and care for their parents at the same time?
The family heard about FCP Live-In, a New England-based in-home care provider, and reached out to the agency to ask about services for Ralph and Leah Jane. FCP Live-In assessed the family’s needs and assigned a caregiver for the Cusacks. Andrew “Andy” Cusack was impressed with the agency’s process.

“From the initial contact with the intake coordinator, the arrival of our care provider, follow-up calls with the main office and sorting out billing with the account manager, everyone was thoughtful, understanding, professional and helpful,” Cusack said.“They always had the patient’s needs and the family’s support care at the forefront of conversations.”
The Cusacks found themselves in the same position as many families across the country. According to a national AARP survey, more than 3 in 4 participants, or 77 percent, age 50 and older said they want to remain in their homes and communities as long as possible.
AARP also found that seniors wanting to remain independent places pressure on the “sandwich generation” — the adult children who care for their parents as well as their own children or grandchildren.
FCP Live-In’s goal is to be the agency that families turn to when these challenges become overwhelming. The agency’s staff routinely meets with families searching for answers to caregiving concerns.
“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping the adult children of our clients navigate a new season in their parent’s lives,” said Constance McFarland, a FCP Live-In Care Coordinator.
FCP Live-In helps families navigate the unknown by walking them through the process of live-in caregiving and knowing when to make necessary adjustments, particularly when a loved one’s health condition changes.
“Our family’s experience with FCP Live-in was positive from the start, and they were our rescue relief when medical changes required us to make quick decisions,” Andy Cusack recalled.
FCP Live-In: An Alternative To Senior Residences
Many seniors face the prospect of moving into a nursing home or assistant living community. Studies have found that leaving familiar surroundings to live with strangers in a senior residence can take a physical, mental, and emotional toll on older adults.
FCP Live-In services helps older adults who want to live independently sidestep traumatic outcomes associated with leaving familiar surroundings.

“FCP Live-In offers assistance with a sense of security and comfort in the ease of your home without having to move into a nursing home or assisted living facility,” said FCP Live-In Regional Sales Manager Andrea Maroto “The one challenge that the families and their loved ones always mention is that they didn’t want to leave their home, their spouse, their memories.”
FCP Live-In has been helping seniors and their families all over the Northeastern United States for the past 24 years. The agency is not an assistant living facility, even though FCP Live-In provides the same services as a senior residence.
The difference is FCP Live-In’s services are more affordable and the one-on-one care is provided by one in-home caregiver. In contrast, caregivers at nursing homes, who work in shifts, divide their time with multiple residents who must wait their turn for services.
FCP Live-In is all about caring for people, said FCP Live-In Founder and CEO David Anthony.
“I founded this company because the options are limited when it comes to caring for a loved one,” Anthony explained. “Right now, you either have a home health aide who comes to the home for a few hours, or a loved one needs to go into an assisted living facility. But what if you take the best of both? An insured and bonded live-in caregiver that provides 1-on-1 care, stays in the home and is there 24/7. That’s where FCP Live-In comes in.”
FCP Live-In Matches Caregivers With Clients
Ensuring that live-in caregivers are a good fit is essential because FCP Live-In clients have various needs. For instance, some older adults are managing health conditions, such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease, or Alzheimer’s disease.
So, some seniors need caregivers to help them with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and other daily living tasks. Besides providing personal care, FCP Live-In caregivers also do light housekeeping, prepare meals, shop for groceries, and provide transportation to and from medical appointments.
All of the agency’s caregivers are nurse’s aides, home health aides, and personal care aides with at least two years of professional experience. What’s more, caregivers go through full state and federal background checks, and all are bonded and insured.
Applicants for live-in care positions go through several rounds of interviews and skills assessments to make sure that they will be a good fit for the company and its clients. The rigorous hiring process helps to establish trust with clients so that they feel comfortable having a caregiver live in their home who understands what they need.
“The FCP coordinators did an excellent job sourcing out for a care provider that matched our needs and our family’s personality,” Cusack said. “He was a perfect fit with us and became part of our extended family.”
The agency also ensures that substitute in-home caregivers are a good match as well.
“When the primary care person had scheduled time off, FCP made seamless transitions between the temporary providers so that we never had a minute of unattended time,” Cusack recalled. “And every temporary provider was excellent and the care level was consistent with what we grew to expect.”
Additionally, FCP Live-In clients are in different stages of life and in-home caregivers must be sensitive to this, especially when a client is receiving in-home hospice care and end-of-life care.
“It’s great to know how beneficial FCP Live-In is in helping families through their stressful times,” Anthony said.
Leah Jane and Ralph Cusack have since passed, but FCP Live-In helped the couple fulfill their goal of living independently in their forever home.
“The Cusack family was wonderful to work with,” McFarland said. “Our care freed the sons to run the family business and allowed Jane and Ralph to spend their remaining days together in their own home.”
